Four DC traction motors are supplied with 400 VAC out of the university's three-phase
electricity network via thyristor-controlled converters. The main braking is done
with a combined regenerative/rheostatic brake that feeds the energy back into
the power supply system for accelerating and/or powering the other vehicles.
The maximum power consumption of a vehicle is approximately 225
The dual axle running gear sets are equipped with hard rubber tires which move
on the two lower sections of the guideway and permit very low noise rates. They
are guided by small side mounted wheels.
Heating for the running gear is not necessary because it is located weather
protected inside the guideway beam.
The propulsion system of a vehicle consists of two independent, redundant units
which in turn have two parallel connected motors. In case of failure of one system,
the journey can be continued up to the final stop.
